11 Dec Artist Focus – Oscar Llorens
Oscar Llorens was one of the first artists we wanted to collaborate with on Von Coin. With his unique style, always packed with colour and character we caught up with Oscar to find out what makes him tick.
Where are you from?
I was born in Madrid and I am working there from my own studio.
Who are your inspirations? (artistically or otherwise)
I think my work is inspired by all the cartoons I devoured as a kid. Japanese anime of course, but also American and Belgium animation. Of course right now I am inspired by exhibitions, television and the internet – the stuff we see on a daily basis.
Favourite thing to draw?
The most fun projects I do are murals for various clients.
When and how did you know you wanted to be an artist?
I think I wanted to be an artist since I was a child, even then at any given time you could find me hard at work drawing.
Favourite medium to work with?
I don’t have a preference. Sometimes I draw with pencil, sometimes ink or acrylics (usually just for my personal work). When I work for clients however I most often use my computer.
How has your style changed over the years?
Of course my technique has evolved because I am always trying something new, but the spirit of my work is essentially the same as it was in the beginning.
What advice would you give young artists starting out?
Draw all the time and don’t be afraid to show your work to everybody. Especially a piece you are really proud of.
Favourite video game?
It’s been a while but I used to play racing and soccer games and when I was younger I was a Tetris champion.
